Mallaig, Scottish Highlands
Where Every Tide Brings a New Story
Fresh-caught seafood · Award-winning flavours · Highland hospitality
Our Story
Nestled in the heart of Mallaig — Scotland's premier fishing port — The Crab & Creel is more than a restaurant. We are a celebration of the sea. Every morning, we work hand-in-hand with local fishing boats to bring you the finest, most unapologetically fresh seafood the Scottish Highlands have to offer.
Our chef transforms these treasures into dishes of extraordinary depth: seared langoustines from the Isle of Muck, hand-cracked brown crab, Shetland scallops kissed with garlic butter, and a Cullen Skink so rich it has been called worth the entire journey.
The Difference
We partner with Mallaig's fishing fleet. If it wasn't in the sea this morning, it's not on your plate tonight.
Our chef brings classical technique to Highland ingredients — the result is something guests describe as Michelin-worthy.
A real coal fire. Warm lighting. The sounds of the harbour. Dining here feels like coming home — but better.
Our team is genuine, warm, and passionate. Guests don't just leave full — they leave wanting to move to Mallaig.
The Experience
Guest Stories
"Hands down the best fish my family and I have had lately. So fresh and tasty, and cooked just perfectly. We also appreciated the incredibly friendly service."
"The Cullen Skink is worth the trip to Mallaig alone. Seafood is so fresh and well prepared. Come before Michelin discovers it."
"This was hands down the best seafood meal we've had in a long time. Everything was cooked to perfection and we couldn't fault a thing. Great flavour and great cooking."
"The best seafood we've ever had! The chef should be getting international recognition and I'll be singing the staff's praises all the way home. Service hasn't dropped in 3 years."
"The Fish and Chips were by far THE best I have ever had. Period! The batter is simply divine! The service is warm, friendly, and prompt!"
"An absolutely amazing meal. Langoustines to start and monkfish to follow. The lesson the waiter gave the American ladies on how to eat langoustines was quite funny. Definitely recommend!"
"Best crab I've had in decades! Also first time in years I've been given the proper tools to eat a crab at a restaurant. The sticky toffee pudding is delicious — we inhaled it!"
"Quite possibly the best potatoes I've ever had. Excellent service, delicious food served with beautiful presentation, and a warm cheery atmosphere."
